"The Hemp Culture Playing Cards"

All Photos, Art Work and Text by LAURENCE CHERNIAK.

Each ACE and each of THE CANNABIS CULTURE PLAYING CARDS and THE HEMP CULTURE PLAYING CARDS were devised, with the aim of inventing another outrageous, strictly fun, non-threatening, international, hemp oriented product.

THE CANNABIS CULTURE PLAYING CARDS and THE HEMP CULTURE PLAYING CARDS symbolize the preservation of the highest degreee of freedom. The origin from which most of these photos come is the 1st trilogy of THE GREAT BOOKS OF HASHISH.

The ACE of SPADES: (A Perfect Royal Nepalese Temple Ball) was, happily, the 1st card to be designed for THE CANNABIS CULTURE PLAYING CARDS and THE HEMP CULTURE PLAYING CARDS. The photo is from a huge volume of material taken in Nepal; inspired by attending dozens of photography sessions through the kind eleemosynary of three of Kathmandu's legendary hashishins. They tirelessly assisted us in the photographic requests we beseached of them. Our eternal thanks to Hari Basnyet, Kishore Rana and DD Sharma. As well as special thanks to Kali Sunar of Kathmandu, a very dear and special friend. The photo of this Perfect Royal Nepalese Temple Ball was first published (1978) in Volume. I, Book. 1 of THE GREAT BOOKS OF HASHISH trilogies. Also nicely published, as an excerpt from THE GREAT BOOKS OF HASHISH; part of HIGHTIMES Centerfold Spread of May 1982.

The ACE of HEARTS: In the mischievous category. Taken during a fun harvest time when the buds were flowing. Setting up a photo shoot with a pirate's theme in mind stimulated upon returning one day from the Cayman Islands in 1995 shortly after the annual Pirate's Week where the handkerchief the pumpkin is wearing was obtained. "WHEEL 'EM and DEAL 'EM. Yohoho, a bottle of rum and don't Bogart that joynt my friend".

The ACE of CLUBS: A Thailand special; in TOP 25 MOST PUBLISHED PHOTOS category. First published in The 1980 Marijuana Date Book by AND/OR Press, As well published in the 1983 HIGHTIMES calendar, Volume I, Book 2 of THE GREAT BOOKS OF HASHISH, and most recently in HIGHTIMES magazine in April 2000.

The ACE of DIAMONDS: photo features a part of the process of making cannabis oil. Here we see the "must" which had been soaked in acetone for over a month, being poured off. The color of the shake (made up of the Marijuansa trimmings) was a beautiful thalocyanine green which would then be cooked, in a well aired environment, at just the right temperature to cause the acetone to continually evaporate; leaving the residue of a thick dark oil. For the entire sequence see Volume II, Book 5 of THE GREAT BOOKS OF HASHISH.
